FINNFEST USA '99 TICKETED EVENTS The following attractions will require a separate ticket. Space will be limited at these events, so please reserve your place early.
Symphony Concert The highlight of FinnFest USA ’99 Limited FinnFest Music Sponsor tickets for this wonderful event can be purchased for $75 per person, or $120 for a couple. Sponsor tickets include select seating and a champagne reception afterwards with the soloists and the conductor.

FinnFest USA '99
See Ballard, the historical heart of Seattle’s Scandinavian community, the Finnish Lutheran Church, and the Nordic Heritage Museum, its Finland Room, Finnish sauna and special Finnish exhibits. At the Museum you will have a chance to sample genuine Finnish food prepared for you by Jari Lipsanen, a visiting Master Chef from Finland. He will show you the secrets of the food preparation as well. Morning tours on Wednesday and Thursday include lunch, the afternoon tour on Wednesday will let you sample Finnish baked goods, like the famous Finnish pulla, and see them made. Bus transportation from campus included in the $15 morning tour and the $8 afternoon tour. Note that all tour buses leave parking lot N2 on the University of Washington campus.
Children of ages 7-15 will be able to lead a Finnish life on Thursday and Friday, at a language camp taught by the Salolampi Language Village of Minnesota. Two full days of Finnish immersion in language-centered activities, games, singing, crafts, cultural presentations and simulations. Includes lunches and snacks for two days and the Friday evening Barbecue. Limited to 50 children. Charge $50 for the two days.
A picnic for young people on Thursday evening at Golden Gardens Park on the beach of Puget Sound. There will be volleyball, frisbee, picnic and a campfire. This event will be a great chance for young people at FinnFest to get to know each other. Buses leave campus at 6:00 p.m. and return by 10:30 p.m. Charge of $8 includes picnic food.
A potpourri of Finnish entertainment at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Ottoset, a premier folk dancing group from Kaustinen, virtuoso folk music duo Pinnin Pojat, Vantaan Voimisteluseura, gymnasts from Vantaa, and many others will present an evening of dance and music in Kane Hall on campus. Charge $8.
An 18-hole golf tournament is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Friday at Everett Golf and Country Club. The $80 per person entry fee will include green fees, golf cart, meal, and prizes to be awarded for a traditional style event. The tournament welcomes FinnFest registrants, family members and invited guests.
A barbecue for the whole family on Friday at 6 p.m. Good barbecue food, and entertainment for all ages in a casual setting on campus with space for indoor or outdoor dining. Program includes the graduation performance by the children participating in the Salolampi Language Camp. Charge for adults $20, for children over 5 to 12 @ $10. Children 5 and under free.
This traditional run at 9 a.m. on Saturday will be a pleasure for all runners/walkers. The 5K (3.1 mile) course will encompass wonderful vistas of Mt. Rainier and Lake Washington, and will pass by the residence dormitories for FinnFest attendees. Awards galore for the top 3 finishers in each age group segmented into 5-year groups. Take advantage of the early registration fee of $15, which includes the race T-shirt.
"Nappulakisat" for the youngest participants at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the protected Denny Field on campus. This is a fun run for all youngsters and a fun run where all youngsters are winners. Prize of $10 includes a T-shirt. Register today!
Come and see Finland’s dazzling designer fashions! Presented at noon on Saturday, "FASHION CAFÉ – A TASTE OF FINNISH FASHIONS" will present a show of colorful fashions from Finland’s world-renowned design houses – Annikki Karvinen, Marimekko, Friitala, Ilona Pelli and others, along with accessories from Kalevala Koru. A light lunch with entertainment will precede the live model show. Public sale of designer garments will follow. Tickets $20 and $28.
Join other young people Saturday evening on a cruise of Lake Washington. The cruise includes food, refreshments, music and a peek in on Bill Gates’ house. This will be a great final party with all the new friends found at FinnFest. Buses leave campus at 5:30 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m. Price of $20 includes food and refreshments.
The Grand Banquet on Saturday evening combines delicious food with a festive program. The Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. in the Husky Union Building Ballroom overlooking Lake Washington, and follows a Social Hour starting at 6 p.m.
The Grand Dance of FinnFest will be held at 9 p.m. on Saturday in a nearby location off campus. Petri Ikkela and his orchestra Bandola will provide the dance music with Kari Piironen, a former Finnish Tango King, and Tarja Lunnas, as soloists. Bus transportation will be provided from campus, including buses after the Banquet and Youth Cruise. Tickets $12.
The Finnish American Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest is organizing a luncheon meeting on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on campus. The speaker will be a prominent Finnish business leader, and you will also meet the corporate sponsors and the Trade/Technology Show exhibitors of FinnFest, Chamber members and others. The event is open to all interested in Finnish business. The price is $15.
