The planning committee has announced the date for
FinnFest USA 99. The event will take place July 22-25,
1999, in Seattle, Washington. The location will be the same as in
1989--the beautiful University of Washington campus. The event
will be characterized by the theme of "Roots and
Wings." The planners hope the theme will encourage
Finnish-Americans to recognize and appreciate their Finnishness
while building a bridge from our Finnish heritage to the future
as we approach the twenty-first century. Planning for this event
has already begun with enthusiasm among the increasing number of
volunteers and newly elected Board of Directors. The first annual
meeting was held on April 27th during which
previously-established committees enthusiastically reported the
progress they have made toward building a memorable 1999
FinnFest. A large group of volunteers, a talented Board of
Directors led by Pirkko Borland and that great Finnish
"sisu" will ensure a fun and educational event for all.
The hope is to see many participants--visitors to the Northwest
as well as locals--taking part in the various programs. Imagine a
mass chorus made up of individual singers from all over North
America and elsewhere of a Finnish outdoor market
"tori" buzzing with activity!
